ASPPI CONDUCTS MANGROVE TREE PLANTING IN BATAAN

The Association of Safety Practitioners of the Philippines, Inc. has embarked on a new project to restore ecological integrity in the coastal area of Bataan by partnering with Labspeak Safety Management, Inc. and the Bataan Integrated Coastal Management Program- Project Management Office, the “Mangrove Enhancement Plating and Reforestation Project.”   The project kicked-off on December 13, 2014 in Barangay Sta. Elena, Orion, Bataan as ASPPI officers and members were joined in the seedling planting by employees of the Philippines Resins Industries, Inc., DJ Roque Construction Corp. and Bataan Petron Refinery, with additional hands lent by the students of Bataan Polytechnic State University.  Some 2,000 mangrove tree seedlings were planted by the group within the tidal zone.   Mangrove forest protects the Bataan shoreline from natural elements and provides food and protection to marine animals.   The coastal area is also an important habitat for variety of fish and shellfish and is a sanctuary of migratory bird as well.  ASPPI is aiming to host and plant at least 5,000 mangrove tree seedlings by year 2015 in the shoreline of Bataan.
