APOSHO 27 Conference - A World Class Safety Event

The 27th Annual Conference of the Asia Pacific Occupational Safety and Health Organization (APOSHO) hosted by the Association of Safety Practitioners of the Philippines, Inc. (ASPPI) in Cebu City from 18 to 21 September 2012 was a “one of a kind” enriching experience for all the safety practitioners who attended the said international safety event. It was indeed a learning and sharing opportunity for everyone.

For the first time since it was organized 13 years ago, ASPPI hosted an OSH conference that was world class in stature. Some 107 foreign experts and OSH advocates from 17 countries in the Asia Pacific as well as over 300 local practitioners came to share latest concepts and exchanged information on OSH.

The 27th APOSHO Conference which was held together with the 14th ASPPI OSH General Assembly and Annual Convention featured 24 foreign experts on OSH as well as eight Chief Executive Officers (CEOs)/ Chief Operating Officers (COOs) of leading private business enterprises in the Philippines who shared their company’s vision and best practices on Occupational Safety and Health during the plenary and parallel sessions of the Conference.

A ribbon cutting ceremony and opening of exhibits marked the formal opening of the Conference. This was followed by the entrance of colors wherein APOSHO members and the Secretary General of APOSHO, Mr. Chi-Ming Law walked on the red carpet as the country which they represented was called.

ASPPI likewise paraded the different Chapters from around the Philippines and from the Middle East Region as well as its National Officers.

The Secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Hon. Rosalinda Dimapilis – Baldoz, graced the opening ceremony as the Keynote Speaker of the Conference. On the other hand, the OIC- Director of the Bureau of Working Conditions (DOLE), Atty. Catherine Legados – Parado, shared the government’s vision of a functional occupational safety and health program.

The safety conference was preceded by technical committee meetings of APOSHO and was followed by the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Asia Pacific Occupational Safety and Health Organizations.

The four day APOSHO Conference and ASPPI OSH Convention was indeed an amazing, safety event to cherish for a lifetime.
